MINE>~D WILDLIFE STP.TEMENT/EVALU,•ON (Revised) <br /> <br />for limited impact and select regular mine applications <br />The follocring information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Land <br />Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for: <br />P.CTFf~"R GRAVEL PIT ~ Open Cravel Pit / EzNW~SH,i-,-, Sec. 18, T17S, R44W <br />Name/Type and Location of Mine (Legal) <br />Wildlife Species list: <br />Pronghorn <br />Deer (?) <br />Pheasant (? ) <br />Scaled Quail <br />rabbit <br />?•:ourning Dove <br />Endangered/critical species/impacted: <br />hone that we are aware of. <br />Coyote '• ' <br />Swi£t Fox ' <br />Raptors (transient} <br />Various nongame bird, <br />Critical habitats/vegetative communities impacted: <br />Tone t'rat we are aware of. <br />Assessment of impact: <br />mammal, & reptile~spp. <br />?•:ini;*zl, due to it'.s location in a gazed shortgrass habitat type next to a wheat field. <br />Mine Reclamation reco:mnendations (include key species/habitats for which restoration <br />is designed). <br />Z recommend that the pit be graded & sloped to 3:1 or less and because the pit Ss lo- <br />cated next to grain fields, I also recommend that-it-be reseeded to grasses that enhance <br />game bird nesting (ie: Sand 5luestem, Ta11 Wheat Jose, Switchrass, and Side Oats Gramm) <br />]ellox Clover and Ladak Alfalfa should also be used. 3ecause the pit is located on the <br />side of a hill where rainwater can collect and provide ground moisture I recommend the <br />eatblishment of brush thickets using Plum, 3u`'faloberry, Chokecherry, gild Fos e, & <br />Sandhill Cherzy ( in order of preference}. A maintenance f~rg.; system of planting the <br />above sierubs is described by Warren Sunder in the April-I•:ay"~3.ssue of Colorado Outdoors, <br />a Division of Wildlife publication.
