I recommend that the pit be graded and sloped to 3:1 or less and because the pit is located next to grain fields, I also recommend that it be reseeded to grasses that enhance game bird nesting (i.e, Sand Bluestem, Tall Wheat Jose, Switchgrass, and Side Oats Gramma). fellow Clover and Ladak Alfalfa should also be used. Because the pit is located on the side of a hill where rainwater can collect and provide ground moisture I recommend the establishment of brush thickets using Plum, Buffaloberry, Chokecherry, Wild Rose and Sandhill Cherry ( in order of preference). A maintenance free system of planting the move shrubs is described by Warren Snyder in the April-May 1983 issue of Colorado Outdoors, a Division of Wildlife publication.
