-.
Down Gradient Shadow/Alluvial Aquifer
From past slurry wall experience (e.g., Herbst Pit), the operator has found that there were
no changes in [he water level down gradient of the pit or lowering of the groundwater
level. It is anticipated that the Baseline Resource pit will behave
similar to the Herbst Pit since both pits shares compazable groundwater regimes and
settings. Two monitoring wells are situated to track the water level down gradient.
Results from the wells will be submitted in the annual report.
Up Gradient Bulee
From past slurry wall projects, the operator has experienced up gradient bulges. To
monitor the amount of water collected in front of the wall, monitoring wells are placed
outside the slurry wall, on the up gradient side of the pit. Usually the mounding of water
creates enough pressure that the ground water flows around the wall. However, if the
mounding creates problems for an adjacent property owner(s), the operator will installed
perforated pipes enabling the water to be carried around the wall.
The area that a bulge may occur is on the Kirby property. Presently, the parcel is vacant
and is vegetated with grasses. The up gradient wells will monitor this area and action (as
stated above) will be taken if mounding problems occur.
Results from the wells will be submitted in the annual report.
7.) I[ is the objective of the operator to mine to the boundary of the "proposed approved
setbacks upon receipt of agreements." However, since no notarized agreements or
engineering evaluations has been submitted, the limit of mining will be kept back 200
feet from all permanent structures. Please find enclosed revised mining plans reflecting
the "proposed approved setbacks upon receipt of agreements" (solid line) and the 200'
setback (thick dashed line). The operator is committed to mazking the 200' setback in the
field to ensure no mining occurs outside this limit.
Please find enclosed the receipt for certified mail and return for the response letter dated
December 16, 1997. Also enclosed is a stamped transmittal from the Weld County Clerk
to the Boazd for the materials received regazding the response letter dated December 31,
1997.
Sincerely,
TUTTLE APPLEGATE, INC.
Molly Orkild-Larson
MOL
Encs.
cc: File #97-125B
Jeff Gregg, Hall Irwin Construction Co.
C:/proj/97- 125 b/moVDMGI"E4. doc
~. .. ..~ r. .. _.._.r. av__(L':_o-n l_.. f._.. .. .:Y `v-~...../_i ~.~.~.nl.~, ry4:..-..nY.L-~..:rJ'r.(.... <r.i-.-ti...aiw!`a.-.w ><. .._ ~:'d.. rsy~
