14a-Brycan clay loam, 0 to 9 percent slopes. This deep well
drained soil is in stream bottoms and on alluvial floodplains of major
drainage courses. It formed in alluvial material derived from sedimen-
tary sources. Slopes are concave. This unit is elongated in shape and
is 38 acres in size. The vegetation is mainly shrubs, fortis and
grasses. Elevation ranges from 6100 to 6200 feet. The average annual
precipitation is about 14 inches and the mean annual air temperature is
about 42°F.
Typically the surface Layer is Sark grayish brown clay loam about
17 inches thick. The substratum which is lithologically discontinuous
is brown and yellowish brown clay loam and loam extending to a depth of
greater than 60 inches.
Included in this unit are about 5 percent Savage soils, about 5
percent fine-loamy, mixed Fluventic Haploborolls and about S percent
coarse-loamy, mixed Aridic Hap loborolls of map unit 41.
Permeability of the Brycan soil is moderate as is available water
capacity. Effective rooting depth is greater than 60 inches. Runoff is
medium to slow and the hazard of erosion by both water and wind is
slight.
This map unit is used for grazing and wildlife Habitat.
The soils of this map unit provide a fair source of topsoil to an
average depth of 17 inches.
