April 22, 1999 • • Pagc 9 2.4 Local Domestic Wells American Soda will monitor the water quality from local domestic wells. Domestic wells included in the plan aze those located along Piceance Creek, between the mouth of Horse Draw and the north edge of Section 15. Domestic well monitoring will include the Horse Draw well (formerly USBM Ol A) located neaz the abandoned Horse Draw shaft. 3.0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING Groundwater levels will be measured in all available monitoring wells. Groundwaterquality samples will be collected for analysis. The sampling frequencies, sampling methods, and groundwater parameters for the baseline monitoring period and during commercial operations aze presented in this section. The groundwater monitoring program is broken into two principal periods, a baseline period and a commercial operations period. The baseline data collection period includes five quarters preceding the startup of commercial operations as specified by the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG). Baseline period requirements aze that eight measurements will betaken in afive-quarter period. During commercial operations, the frequency of monitoring measurements will be reduced as per discussion in Section 33. 3.1 Water Lcvcl Monitoring Water levels will be measured monthly for all monitoring well completions except those completed at the Dissolution Surface. Water levels at monitoringwellscompletedattheDissolution Surface will be monitored by automated data recording equipment and evaluated monthly. The monitoring schedule is identical for the baseline data collection period and during commercial miningoperations. Waterlevelmonitoringwillbeconductedinaccordancewithproceduresdetailed in Appendix B. 3.2 Groundwater Quality Analytical Parameters Water quality analyses will be conducted for the parameters listed in WQ1, presented in Table 2. Water quality analyses will be conducted less frequently (Section 3.3) for a more comprehensive list of parameters, designated WQ2 (Table 3).
