Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) by the
Endansered Sppecies Act of 1973 (ESA), as amended (16 li.S.C. 1531 et seq.), liZe Service
reviewed the Preble's meadow jumping mouse. Zapus hudsonius preblei (Preble's), habita:
assessment repon submitted with vour letter of 7anuary 23, 2003. This repon regards the
proposed site plan review for the Duckworth Pit on Idaho Creek in Weld County, Colorado.
This project, as proposed. may disturb riparian habitats.
Based on the information provided, and eiven vour compliance with the Prebleā¢s survey
suideiines, the Service finds the reaon acceptaole and a~*ees that a population of Preble's is not
iike'.v to be present within the subject area. Thus, the Service concludes that the propposee project
on this site should not have direct adverse affects to Preble's. Should Preble's populattons extst
downstream from the site, actions on the site that result in sisrtificant modifications of Preble's
habitat downstream (for example, throueh alteration of existing flow regimes, or sedimentation)
may be subject to provisions of the ES:4.
?f the Service can be of fu; her assistance, please contact Barbara Spagnuolo of ,::v staff at x,303)
27~-23 i0.
