Hernandez, Daniel
From: Hernandez, Daniel
Sent: Friday, August 17, 2007 9:20 AM
To: 'jerry.koblitz@arcadis-us.com'
Cc: 'murari@westernfuels.org'
Subject: FW: Western Fuels Third Park Coal Expl Project
Hi Jerry
As I mentioned by phone a few minutes ago, here is the e-mail we received from DOW
regarding the Western Fuels Third Park Coal Exploration Project. DOW indicates that their
concerns have been addressed. We are therefore proceeding with approval of the NOI
application upon receipt of an appropriate bond from Western Fuels. DOW would, however,
like info on the owl sightings. Would you mind providing that info to Renzo?
Thanks, and have a good day.
Dan
-----Original Message-----
From: Delpiccolo, Renzo
Sent: Thursday, August 16, 2007 2:59 PM
To: Hernandez, Daniel
Cc: Garner, Jim; Bonacquista, Tony; Caddy, Mark
Subject: RE: Western Fuels North Park Coal Exp1 Project
Dan,
After further review with our local guys we feel that those two owls were not likely on
their nest sites as they are very much interconnected to prairie dog towns. None the less
we would like to document the exact location of the sighting so as to add it to our data
base. Do you happen to have that or do we need to contact someone else? Again, we
appreciate your going the extra step with this project and our concerns but we don't feel
the project should impact burrowing owls in the area.
Thanks again,
Renzo
-----Original Message-----
From: Hernandez, Daniel
Sent: Monday, August 13, 2007 1:07 PM
To: Delpiccolo, Renzo
Subject: FW: Western Fuels North Park Coal Expl Project
Hi, Renzo:
Here are the EA and FONSI from BLM for Western Fuels Association's North Park coal
exploration project in Montrose County.
As I mentioned on the phone today, BLM's comments about a lack o£ active prairie dog
colonies within the project area are on page 13 of the EA. BLM's comments about the
existence of two burrowing owls within the project area are on page 15 of the EA.
I would appreciate a reply as to whether DOW believes its concerns, raised in its letter
1
