SHIPPS PIT - WELD COUNTY
EXHIBIT E: RECLAMATION PLAN
The area where we have our present operation located has been utilized
as a gravel source for several years by the Department and private
contractors.
It appears the only gravel removed has been taken from the creek, as we
are presently doing with our operation. The creek tends to reclaim
itself with silt and gravel carried by runoff water filling the
excavation. The area we are using as a plant and stockpile site is
covered by gravel with no visible topsoil. Apparently, over the years,
the topsoil was either utilized in gravel production or has been
contaminated with gravel.
As our operation expands into areas within the permitted area that have
overburden, the top 0.3 foot, approximately, will be stripped and
stockpiled. At the completion of our operation, or as an area of
sufficient size for reclamation becomes available, we will spread the
stockpiled overburden on the backslopes of the pit where we excavated.
As stated above the creek channel tends to reclaim itself. Any excess
overburden not utilized in gravel production will also be saved for use
in reclamation. This material could be spread over portions of the
present plant and stockpile area designated by the owner.
All areas which we cover with overburden will then be seeded, fertilized,
and mulched in accordance with the attached seeding plan. The plan is
based on recommendations from the U. S. Soil Conservation Service and is
aimed at returning the area to its present use as dryland pasture.
After seeding the area will be fenced until the grass is established.
The permit area will be left in a neat condition with all backslopes
no steeper than 2:1.
Haul from the area to the county roads is done over the owners private
road. This road will be left in place for the owners use.
The following is the seeding, fertilizing, and mulching plan to be used
for the Shipps Pit.
