Rienau #2 Mine Sediment Pond A and B Certification Report
There were.a number of revisions to the sediment pond
designs at the Rienau #2 Mine. The most recent that could
be located was the revision supplied by Merrick and Company
Engineers and Architects submitted by Northern to MLRD on
March 19, 1979 titled Northern Coal Company Reinau #2 Mine
Rio Blanco County. Modification #2 Sedimentation Control
Plan. This plan shows the details of the two ponds,
however, diversion ditches are not shown in the plan which
were later used. to divert most of the undisturbed area away
from the ponds, thus greatly reducing the pond capacity
requirements. The designs for this revision, which came
after March 19, 1979, could not be found. Therefore, I have
recalculated the capacity requirements of the pond and
compared them with the site measurements taken on July 25,
1980. All other aspects of the construction, such as
spillways, dewatering pipes, rip-rap, dam dimensions, etc.
were evaluated in comparison to the plans submitted on March
19, 1979.
