__
'hrtttleApplegate, Ilnc.
Consultants for Land, Mineral and Water
May 24, 2000
Division ofMinerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
Attn: Mr. Gregg Squire
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Response to Adequacy Review Comments, 112 Construction Materials Application,
Mobile Premix Concrete, Inc. a subsidiary of Lafarge Corp., Riverbend Operation,
Application No. M-2000-016
Dear Mr. Squire:
The following discussion and attachments are submitted on behalf of our client in response to the
adequacy review comments received for the Riverbend Operation. The Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology submitted adequacy review comments to the applicant on May 5, 2000.
The information and discussion below addresses each comment as it was presented by the
Division.
General Response:
As stated previously, the applicant does not anticipate that the lined reservoirs will affect alluvial
ground water elevations up or down gradient of the site. [f potential impacts are identified (i.e.
ground water mounding and potential flooding of Weld County Road 6), and monitoring data
and other information indicate that the lined pits are responsible for the impacts, the applicant
will mitigate the identified impacts to the Division's satisfaction. Measures to mitigate ground
water mounding may include subsurface ground water drains or ground water interception
trenchs.
Response to Mr. Allen Sorenson Comments:
Comments 1
• The applicant will provide the Division with a statement that the approved plans and
specifications for the liner design can not be altered without consent by the Division.
The moisture content specification will be changed to no more than 1 percent dry of
optimum for the clay/shale core (Zone 1).
11990 Grant St. • Suite 304 • Denver, CO 80233 5441 Boeing Drive. • Suite 200 • Loveland, CO 80536-8855
(303j 452.6611 • Fax (303) 452-2759 (970) 461-9884 • Fax (970) 613-1177
