Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) is in receipt of an Apri14, 2005 letter you sent to
Jim Stover, consultant representing Bear Coal Company (BCC), regarding the spring water flowing
across the BCC mine facility. In that letter you state that it is your "understanding the DMG, as well as
BCC, studied the spring water and compared it with water from nearby alluvial wells, and the mine water.
The result of these investigations was that the spring water was considered to be sepazate from the mine
water, and was associated with the landslide and not the mine." Please be advised that DMG is in the
process of evaluating the issue of the Edwards Spring water. We have not yet reached a conclusion
regarding that investigation.
In the future we would appreciate being notified in advance of your decisions where DMG reported
decisions are being referenced. You can contact DMG at the number above and the receptionist will
forward the call to the appropriate staff person responsible for a given mining operation.
Pease feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.
Sincerely,
~~ ~ r
Sandra L.
