2.06-8
The purpose of the wells will be to determine if the quality
of water in the alluvium is impacted by the mining operation.
Two wells are proposed at each location because it is possible
that the water in the alluvium up gradient of the irrigation
ditch will be impacted, yet the water in the alluvium down gradi-
ent is not impacted. Since Area 1 is down gradient of the irri-
gation ditch, the distinction between the two monitoring points
is important. See section 2.05.6(3) for the monitoring schedule
for the alluvial wells and the surface water monitoring point.
The four proposed alluvial wells will be installed as soon as
possible but no later than the end of the first quarter of 1992.
The surface water monitoring point for the irrigation ditch, R-1,
will be sampled concurrently with the alluvial wells.
None of the run-off from the permit area rill enter Broad
Canyon. Broad Canyon is tributary to Naturita Creek at the
location of Area 2. Area 2 is on the north aide of Naturita
Creek and Broad Canyon flows into Naturita Creek from the south.
Flow from Broad Canyon is not used to irrigate Area 2 nor does it
contribute flow to the irrigation system for Area 2. Bven if
run-off from the permit area were to flow into Broad Canyon, the
flow would not effect the quality of surface xater supplied to
Area 2.
Flow from the permit area, through Section 33 Creek, could
theoretically effect the quality oP water in Naturita Creek.
Area 1 does not receive irrigation water from Naturita Creek.
Area 2 receives irrigation water from Naturita Creek from a point
well upstream of the intersection of Section 33 Creek and Naturi-
ta Creek. The other potential alluvial valley floors along
Naturita Creek would obviously derive water from Naturita Creek.
The surface water monitoring plan presented in section 2.05.6(3)
includes monitoring upper and lower Naturita Creek. This water
monitoring information will show the effect, if any, that the
mining operation has on Naturita Creek and by association the
alluvial water along Naturita Creek.

2.06-4 August 1991
