2.05.4(2)(c) Backfilling and Gradingcontinued)
Mine yard area: The mine yazd azea was reclaimed to the approximate original contour
in 1992 although its final elevation was approximately 5 to 8 feet higher than the pre-
mining elevation. At the request of the landowner (see pages 187.1 a-b), the building
and access road are to remain after reclamation for storage of ranch equipment, etc.
1) The sediment pond dam will remain intact to provide flood control for the building
and the road entrance to the building and for water availability for livestock. The Trout
Creek side of the dam has riprap protection which has served well over the years in
preventing the Creek from entering the property. The landowner immediately
downstream, Bob Baumgartel, has had problems with Trout Creek flooding his property
and he is continuously looking for additional rock to serve as rip rap along the banks of
the Creek at his site. The landowner of the mine site, Bernard Knott, also desires to
maintain the dam for the purpose of flood control. If taken out, high water would create
a peninsula of land at the closest corner of the building, which would be vulnerable to
flood-caused erosion. The landowner does desire that the cinder block emergency
spillway be removed and graded to the same level as the dam. The dam and pond is
compatible with the post-mining land use of rangeland.
2) A small amount of topsoil from the existing access road will be excavated and
placed on top of the spillway area (8' x 15'). This can also be done with a small loader
since the access road is adjacent to the pond.
3) The east berm will be excavated to the same level as the existing field. This material
is very gravelly and will make good roadbase, therefore, it will be placed on the access
road to replace the topsoil that was excavated. The current berm is approximately 14
feet wide and averages 1.6 feet high. The approximate volume is 1.6 ft x 14 ft x 210 ft.
= 4704 cubic feet or 174 cubic yards. A small 5 to 10 yard truck and small loader must
be used to load and place this material. The 174 cy is slightly greater than the 121 cy
of topsoil removed from the road, therefore, any excess will be used to raise the road
with a slight crown in the center which is better for future road runoff handling and
maintenance.
4) The areas of the berm, sediment pond and upper part of the dam will be re-seeded
according to the approved plan. This total area is approximately 0.24 acres for the pond
and dam, 0.07 acres for the east berm. The west berm has been contoured to blend into
the terrain and will not be re-disturbed.
Ali of these items are shown on the Final Contour Man which is enclosed following
this page.
P 183
Tl~ l3
