and a minimum depth of 0.5 feet on a 1 percent slope. The water bar, as
• designed, is capable of conveying .75 cfs with .3 feet freeboard and have an
outslope velocity of 1.11 feet per second (fps) (see Appendix 2.05.3-4 for
calculations). Sun Coal Company, pursuant to the approved haul road decom-
mission plan (TR-O1), and in order to facilitate vehicular travel, modified the
water bar configuration such that the water bar top width is 15 feet having a
minimum depth of 0.5 feet.
According to Kaufman (1977), when flow velocities are between 2 to 5 fps
and/or when the (outslope) slope embankment is over 10 percent, it should be
riprapped. In all cases, where cross drains were proposed, the embankment
outslope exceeds 10 percent. If erosion occurs at the base of any cross drain,
Sun Coal Company will adopt appropriate erosion control mitigation techniques.
•

- 179 - (Rev. 5/861
