A shrub density standard is not proposed for the haul road corridor for the following reasons.
The maximum width of the disturbance area is approximately 200 feet, representing a
minimal disturbance in relation to the surrounding area. Also, the overstocked and decadent
shrub stands which dominate the area will be complimented with the addition of areas with
succulent herbaceous forage. Both livestock and wildlife will be benefited.
Seasonal Variety Revegetation success for seasonal variety in the reclaimed areas will not be
evaluated since nearly all the species in the premining vegetation types are cool season
species. The seed mixes have been developed to establish the species best adapted to the
site, while also establishing species of the same seasonal variety. Thus, since the seed mixes
are dominated by cool season species and any reestablishing native species are principally cool
season species, seasonal variety measurements are not necessary.
Reference Area The extended reference area will be monitored during the period of extended
liability to more accurately gauge average cover and production for the various community
types and evaluate annual climatic affects on the vegetation. Monitoring will be carried out at
the same time during revegetation monitoring activities in order to provide a basis for
comparison of the status and continued development of the reclaimed plant communities.
References
Armstrong, David M. 1975.
