There are five bedrock wells and three piezometers which will be used to evaluate water •
bearing zones and monitor the effects of dewatering and subsidence. One well in the coal
seam (NM-21) will evaluate the Maxwell seam. Three piezometers into the mine
workings (GEM-1, GEM-2, and GEM-3) will provide direct information on the flooding
of [he workings and its recharge. Four wells in the overburden (LA-264, SF-2, Nh9-22
and NM-20) will evaluate water bearing zones above the coal which could conceivably
be utilized for beneficial use and which might be impacted by mining.
A surface water control plan has been prepared and is shown on Iv1ap 11, Sediment and
Surface Water Control flan. This plan has been developed and was used to direct all
surface waters from within the disturbed area through sediment control structures where
the water quality was monitored and controlled prior to di:~charge. Basin Resources
monitored the water quality as covered under the NPDES permits as long as the ponds
were required. Detailed studies of the water qualit}• as:;ociated with the surface
disturbances are reviewed in Rule 2.04, Surface and Ground Water Resources.
Disturbed area boundaries zones have been clearly marked and will be maintained in
accordance with Sections 4.02 and 4.06 of the CDMG Regulations for Coal Mining.
Closure and final reclamation of the mine terminated extension of mine disturbance, and
the approved limits of disturbance were reduced to areas of actual disturbance. The need
for stream buffer zone signage was eliminated as no disturbance encroached to/or within
100 feet of any perennial stream.
Underground Development Disposal. Underground development waste has been •
classified as coal processing waste. See Exhibit 17 for details regarding coal processing
waste.
Protection of Public Parks and Historic Places Research of the National Register of
Historic Places indicates that there are no historic places near the Golden Eagle Mine
which will be affected by the mine's operation. There are no publicl}• owned parks in the
area which will be affected by the Golden Eagle Mine operation.
Surface Mining Near Underground Minim No surface mining is currently taking place
in the
2.05-47-f (TR-52 Revisiand2/01)
C~
