AmerAlia, Inc.
Groundwater
April 2000
Surface and Groundwater Monitoring Report
AmerAlia, Inc., commenced sampling activities to establish water quality information for its
experimental pilot plant nahcolite project pursuant to the approved surface and groundwater
monitoring plan dated November 23, 1999. This activity included drilling and completion of six
groundwater monitoring wells between December ] 8,1999 and January 31, 2000. One well,
MWD-1, was drilled on Pad ],which is located in the pillaz among the production wells.
MWD-1 monitors the interval just above the Dissolution Surface. Pad 2 is immediately
downgradient of the production wells. Wells drilled and completed on Pad 2 are identified as
follows: MWU-2 in the Uinta Formation; MWA-2 at the A-Groove; MWB-2 at the B-Groove;
and MWD-2 just above the Dissolution Surface. Baseline water data are collected from
monitoring wells MWU-2, MWA-2, MWB-2, and MWD-2 located on Pad 2. Alluvial
groundwater is sampled in wells AM-1 and AM-2 located in the Yellow Creek drainage. Water
monitoring locations are presented in Figure 1.
Each well was sampled by air-lifting significant quantities of groundwater out of the well bore
using compressed air and z-inch-diameter PVC piping for wells MWU-2, MWA-2, MWB-2,
MWD-2 and MWD-1. Stainless-steel tubing with a a-inch diameter was used in well AM-2.
Field parameters tested at the time of sample recovery include the following: depth to water
level, temperature, conductivity, pH, and total dissolved solids. The date and time of the
sampling were noted, along with field site conditions and any other unique features of the
sampling events.
Daub & Associates, Inc., an independent third party contractor, conducted the sampling activities
for AmerAlia, Inc. April field measurements for these groundwater monitoring wells are
presented in Table 1. The analytical laboratory results aze presented in Tables 2 through 8. The
complete analytical laboratory data reports, which include the Long List constituents for each
well as specified in the approved surface and groundwater monitoring plan dated November 23,
1999, are presented in Appendix A.
Surface Water
Streams
Three surface-water stream locations were sampled by Daub & Associates, Inc., to establish
water quality information -two upgradient and one downgradient of the project site. The
upgradient stream locations include the Corral Gulch drainage neaz the inactive U.S. Geological
Survey (USGS) monitoring station number 09306244 and the Stake Springs Draw drainage
above the confluence with Yellow Creek near the inactive USGS monitoring station number
09306230. The Corral Gulch location is identified as SW-1; the Stake Springs location is
identified as SW-2 (see Figwe 1).
The downgradient Yellow Creek surface-water stream sampling site is approximately 0.4 mile
downstream of the AM-2 alluvial well location. This downgradient location is identified as
SW-3. April field measurements for these swface water sites aze presented in Table 9. The
analytical laboratory results are presented in Tables 10 through 12. The complete analytical
Daub & Associates, Inc.
