'Ihe purpose of the plan was to oucline Kerr's proposed approach for
determining borehole/well reclamation requiremenu and implementing the necessary steps to
complete borehole/well reclamation, where indicated. The plan coruists of the following main
componenu:
• Inventory (office and field) existing boreholes and wells
• Identify any boreholes or wells completed by entities other than Kerr
• Determine potential for future beneficial use for each borehole or well
• Recommend and reach agreement with BLM and surface owner/leasee on well retention
and development for future use (water supply or monitoring)
• Implement borehole and well abandonment and reclamation
The purpose of this letter u to update the BLM as to the f`mdings of the site reconnaissance,
provide additional information on potential future uses of the wells, and provide preliminary
recommendation for wells that appeaz to warrant retention for future beneficial use.
Well Inventory and Site Recon:aissance
Field reconnaissance of the Ken- Mme Pemrit area was completed by Kerr Coal Companyin June,
2000. The purpose of the reconnaissance effort was to locate and identify existing wells and
boreholes (in the field) in order to verify information from a sirrrilar reconnaissance conduced by
the BLM - Kremmling Field Office in November 1999 and a file and well log review completed by
Montgomery Watson (MW) staff. Infomrauon on well ownership (where identifying marking were
found), casing type and diameter, water levels, general field conditions, capping, fencing etc. were
noted during the reconnaissance. MW has compiled all available relevant information obtained by
the BLM, MW, and Ketr to develop the following sumntary.
There are up to 70 wells or boreholes within or neaz the Kerr Mme Permit area. Map 1, Federal
Coal Lease -Exploration Boreholes and Wells, shows the approximate location of all identified
boreholes and wells. The original field reconnaissance plan included the use of a global
positioning system (GPS) to obtain approximate coordinates for each well borehole observed in
the field.
P.0 Box 774018 Tel 970 879 6260
1475 Pme Grove Road Fax. 9708799048 Ser v~nB the 4l'u Ids En r~ron,-nenra~ 7racs
Steam6aat Spnngs, Colorado
80471
