AtntwuH
Thl° purpose of this report is to summarize the results of the soil and groundwater abatement
activities performed at the above-referenced site in May and June 2001. As requested, two
(2) copies of this report were submitted to the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment (CDPHE). A copy of this report was also submitted to the Weld County
Department of Environmental Health. The approximate location of the site is shown on
Figures 1 and 2 in Appendix A of this report.
1. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The subject facility is leased by Aggregate Industries West Central Region, Inc. (Aggregate
Industries) and is used for the mining of aggregates and production of asphalt pavement. A
10,000-gallon diesel-fuel above-ground storage tank (AST) was utilized at the site for the
fueling of on-site machinery and vehicles. The AST was installed at the site in May 2000.
A different dispenser with new underground piping was installed at the site in March 2001
anti the modified fueling system was placed into operation on April 17, 2001 afrer the
electrical service for the dispenser was completed.
During the reconciliation of the April 2001 inventory records for the AST, it was discovered
that a release had occurred from the diesel-fuel system. The AST was taken out of service
on May 1, 2000 due to the discrepancy in the April 2001 inventory records. The release was
investigated by Aggregate Industries personnel beginning on May 1, 2001 and was
confirmed on May 7, 2001. The release was reported to the Colorado Department of Public
Health and Environment (CDPHE) by Ms. Jamie Gaboriau, Regional Envirotunental
Manager, of Aggregate Industries on May 8, 2001. The AST is anon-regulated tank
pursuant to the Colorado Storage Tank Regulations since the tank was utilized at a mining
facility. According to Mr. Roger Doak of the CDPHE, the CDPHE reviews releases from
nott-regulated tanks using the same criteria established by the Colorado Department of Labor
anti Employment Oil Inspection Section (OIS).
,,
i
°SeRYICE, QUALITY, AND INNOVATION
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND GEOHYDROLOGY
