Alnwuux
The purpose of this report is to summarize the results of the quarterly groundwater sampling
event performed at the site in October 2001. As requested, copies of this report were
submitted to the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG), Colorado Department
of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Weld County Department of
Environmental Health. The approximate location of the site is shown on Figures 1 and 2
whil;h are attached to this report.
1. BACKGROUND
The subject facility is leased by Aggregate Industries -WCR, Inc. (Aggregate Industries) and
is used for the mining of aggregates and production of asphalt pavement. A 10,000-gallon
diesel-fuel above-ground storage tank (AST) was utilized at the site for the fueling of on-site
machinery and vehicles. During the reconciliation of the April 2001 inventory records for
the .AST, it was discovered that a release had occurred from the diesel-fuel system. The
release was investigated by Aggregate Industries personnel beginning on May 1, 2001 and
was confirmed on May 7, 2001. The release was reported to the CDPHE on May 8, 2001.
Based on information provided by Aggregate Industries, the volume of the diesel-fuel spill
was estimated to be approximately 10,840 gallons and reportedly occurred over a relatively
short period of time from mid-March to the end of April 2001.
Contaminated soil was excavated from the spill area between May 8, 2001 and May 31,
2001 and stockpiled at the site for use in asphalt paving mix. The approximate extent of the
abatement excavation which was completed at the site is shown on Figures 3a and 4.
Approximately 103,000 gallons of groundwaterlfree-phase product mixture was also pumped
from the excavation during the abatement activities.
