• stratum immediately below the Wadge Seam were conducted for the
purpose of identifying, at a minimum, those horizons containing
potential acid-forming, tonic-forming or alkalinity-producing
materials. The overburden in the proposed permit area was sampled
by collecting cuttings from holes drilled with air. The vertical
and geographical density of sampling, the sampling and testing
techniques and the chemical parameters analyzed are specified in
accordance with the procedures published in: 1) the Soils and
Overburden Guidelines, 1977, .of the Reclamation Division, Department
of State Lands, State of Montana; 2) Guidelines 1-3 of the Division
of Land Quality, Department of Bnviro~ental Quality, State of
Wyoming; and 3) the IISGS requirements set forth in 30 CFR 211.10(c)
(6)(aii). Vanadium and chloride have been added.
•
The chemical parameters for which the overburden vas analyzed
are presented in Table 2, Overburden Analysis List. The geographic
sampling density used for sample collection was one hole per 859
linear feet. The vertical density was as follows:
Lithotypea less than 10 feet thick - one composite sample from
5 foot intervals
Lithotypes 10 to 30 feet thick - one composite sample
from 5 foot intervals
Lithotypes greater than 30 feet thick - one composite sample
every 100 feet from 5
foot intervals
As used here, "lithotype" is defined as a distinct sedimentary
deposit of uniform composition based upon physical and visual
2.04-33
