D°.~ rm.
5.7 Surface Water Location DFSW-3
No volatile organic compounds were detected. The following inorganic constituents were
detected: boron 1.0 ppm; calcium 4 ppm; hardness (Ca) 11 ppm; iron 0.2 ppm; magnesium 1 ppm;
potassium 2.6 ppm; sodium 2 ppm; and zinc 0.03 ppm. The following anions were detected:
bicarbonate 33.7 ppm; chloride 8.10 ppm; nitrite <0.15 ppm; nitrate 0.16 ppm; and sulfate 7.04
ppm. Other parameters include pH 7.11; specific conductance 28.7 uMHO/cm @ 25°C; alkalinity
27.6 mg CaCOy/L; TDS 63.0 ppm; TSS 4.67 ppm; and turbidity 3 NTU.
6.0 CONCLUSIONS
No volatile organic compounds were detected in water samples from the three surface water
locations, or in monitoring well DFMW-2. Five volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were detected
in monitoring well DFMW-I, and 1 VOC in each of monitoring wells DFMW-3 and DFMW-4. It
should be noted that these are estimated values, and were detected below the EPA practical
quantitation limits.
• Inorganic analyses oC the surface and ground water samples indicated that the ground water
samples contained elevated levels of calcium ,and had higher hardness concentrations than the
surface water samples. Furthermore, magnesium, potassium, and sodium levels wee higher in the
ground water samples than in the surface water samples. Magnesium and sodium levels were
higher at DFSW-1 than at DFSW-2 and DFSW-3. Trace levels of cadmium, iron, lead, manganese,
and zinc were found in some of the monitoring well samples, and trace levels of iron, lead,
manganese, mercury, and zinc were detected in the surface water samples.
L
Anionic concentrations typically were higher in the ground water samples than in the surface
water samples. Bicarbonate, chloride, and sulfate levels were significantly greater in the
monitoring wells than at the surface water sampling locations. Surface water samples collected
at DFSW-I contained typically higher bicarbonate, chloride, and sulfate concentrations than at
the other two surface water monitoring locations. Concentrations of nitrites at all surface and
ground water monitoring locations were <0.15 ppm. Concentrations of nitrates ranged from 0.16
ppm at monitoring locations DFSW-2, DFSW-3 and DFMW-I, to <0.10 ppm at DFSW-1 and DFMW-
3.
Pmjed Number 769-97-0IS
]uly it, 1990
Page 8
