state Rea.
• monitored at two sites: 17-W and 19-W. Both wells are located
dnrmgra~;eat of mining.
Well 17-W is located near the Wadge ~otrndme_*+*, and water samples
collected at this site have a NaCaM3-SO4 water type. ~e Wadge dal
arni i fen at this site receives rec2~az~ge fxYau the Wadge Impaur~ent
(which receives d;~-~r~e fx+aa the spoils aquifer) and the Little
GYas.~y Creek alluviinn. 29S om~esrtrations at well 17-W have been
increasing since 1980, which is to be expected omisiderinq the
sources of rec3~arge far the Wadge Coal aquifer in this area.
Well 19-W is located south of the Wadge rmerra~*idn+~nt. Wadge Coal
aquifer water quality at this site is quite different than seen at
well 17-W; the water type is Na-HO03, aryl 29S levels are
armrrnrimately orre-third of those ~~TM~ at 17~d and show a very
slight decreasing trend. It should be noted that the water quality
• obseLVed at 19-W is quite similar to the water quality ~~~+**~ at
other Wadge Coal monitoring wells that were later destroyed by
mining.
Wolf Creek Overlxarien/Wadge Underburden Aquifer. 2Y>x'ee wells
presently monitor water quality ,in the Wolf Creek Overbuxtien/Wadge
Underbunien aquifer: 7-WOO, SPl-U, and S11-U.
Well 7-~i4CU is located downdip frcan the Wolf Creek pit area, and water
samples from this site are d;cr;nc+ly different than those fr®n wells
8P1-U and S11-U. A CaMg-SO4 wager type is present at 7-WOO. 29.5
values at 7-WOO have declined since 1987 when a peak 29S level of
1600 mg/1 was a~eastn:~ed; the 1991 water year average 29S concentration
was 1233 mg/1.
Water quality at wells 8P1-U aryl Sil-U are quite similar. Both wells
show a Na-HOD3 water type; 29S ow~srtrations are stable and range
• between 600 to 700 mg/1.
Wolf Creek Coal Acruifer.
