... •
7
contributing to a particular gaining reach.
7. Based on potentially affected area ground water flow
characterization, evaluate the potential for hydrologic connection
between potential contaminant sources at the mine and discharging
adits, seeps, springs, or influent stream reaches. Determine
amounts and locations of contaminant loading from ground water to
surface water within the potentially affected area.
Ambient Ground Aater Quality Determination
Given the nature of the Interim Narrative Standard for ciround water
established by the Water Quality Control Commission, and the specifics of
the ground water provisions of the Mineral Rules and Regulations of the
Mined Land Reclamation Board, it is critical that ambient ~3round water
quality for the potentially affected area be determined or estimated. A
description of background ground water quality will likely be facilitated
by installation of one or more "upgradient" wells. The following location
criteria for wells to establish background quality is provided:
1. Wells completed in aquifer of interest, in same drainage basin where
potential for contamination exists.
2. The locations must not be hydraulically downgradier~t of known
potential contaminated sources.
3. Locations should be spatially distributed within the dr:sinage area,
and must be reasonably accessible for well installation and
sampling.
C:\WP51\CLIMAx.GWl
