United States Natural 1607 Pheasant Ridge
Department of • Resources Ste ng, CO 80751
Agriculture Conservation (30 522-7554
service
February 7, 1995
Rick Snook
Logan County Department
Logan County Courthouse
Sterling, CO 80751
Dear Rick:
of Planning and Zoning
I have examined the proposed gravel pit sites at Rothe Pit:
SWS/4 of SW1/4 of Section 33, Township SN, Range 52W on February
3rd, 1993. The reclamation plan for this site is as follows:
Situation: The Roth Pit is currently a farmed alfalfa field with
an average 1000 lbs residue cover. The area is classified as an
Sandy Meadow range site. Some earth work has been done at this
time in a small area west of the field by the power poles, some
along the north, and a small area on northeast end. This area
shows the underlying mottled sand and gravel material. The site
is nearly level with a man made road about eight feet higher than
field that run on the east and west side of field.
Boils: The Roth pit site consists of Alda Loam, map unit 3. This
is a deep, somewhat poorly drained soil with a loamy surface
texture and a calcareous loam and fine sandy loam subsurface
texture.
Reclamations: It should be noted that once gravel mining is
initiated, all disturbed areas must be reclaimed.
Toosoilina: The current topsoil should be removed and reserved
to be used for reclamation. Topsoil should be spread uniformly
over the disturbed area to a packed depth of 6 inches.
Mulch: A straw mulch will have to be spread and crimped into the
soil at a minimum rate of 2000 lbs per acre. Mulch should stick
6" out of the soil. These measures will help control wind and
water erosion until grass becomes established.
Grass 8eedina: The seedbed should be well settled and firm but
friable for seed placement. Soils that have been over-compacted
by equipment should be tilled to break up restrictive layers,
then harrowed, rolled or packed to prepare the required firm
seedbed. Grass should be drilled using a grass drill from
November 1 - April 30, after all other treatment is completed.
Recommended planting depth is 1/4" to 1/2". Plant the following
seed mix:
