Your mining plan map does not show a road that accesses the 40 acre proposed permit site.
YoTir exhibit shows a road about 1/8 mile away from the proposed site. Please show the access
road from the existing road as being a part of your proposed permit area. This segment of road
must be reclaimed unless the owner of the land wants it to remain afrer mining ceases.
Exhibit E-Reclamation Plan
Your plan includes a commitment to take an inventory of vegetation to identify native plant
species, prior to mining. Please provide a copy of that inventory for inclusion in a permit file
prior to starting excavation.
Your plan states that you will use the seed mix used at the 1000 Peakes Dry Site. (a peat mining
operation) You state that the area contains the same ground cover vegetation. This seems
highly unlikely since the soils on each site are most likely very different. In any case, Our
Division and the DOW want the site reclaimed to native species. Please eliminate the smooth
brome and pubescent wheatgrass from the mix and add species such as Arizona fescue, Idaho
fescue, western wheatgrass and thurber wheatgrass to the mix. Your local Natural Resources
Conservation Service representatives can assist you with a mix and proper seeding rates. The
DOW would like to see the use of native species for wildlife purposes. Our Division requires
native species, since the final land use is rangeland and native species in this case are more
appropriate for that type of land use and land management.
Exhibit F-Reclamation Plan Map
Rule 6.4.6(a) requires that the reclamation plan map show proposed topography of the area
with contour lines of sufficient detail to portray the direction and rate of slope of all reclaimed
lands. Please provide a map with the required contour lines.
Exhibit J-Vegetation Information
Your Exhibit J is satisfactory for the purposes of your application. However, the Division
request that you provide us a copy of the inventory of vegetation you committed, in Exhibit E,
to complete prior to mining. The Natural Resource Conservation Service will most likely help
you with the inventory, if you need assistance.
Exhibit L-Reclamation Costs
An estimate of reclamation costs will be calculated by the Division upon receipt of responses to
this adequacy review. The Financial Warranty amount (Bond) will be based on that estimate.
M:\ossWiD\ooAdequacy Lcaers\Ido.robcrl regesler File M-2000-OSS.doc
