Added 5-21-82
Haul Roads. There is one haul road on the Bourg property (Plate 23).
• It was constructed and is maintained to meet regulatory requirements. It
was built in a manner which will control or minimize erosion, air and
water pollution, and damage to surrounding property. The haul road is
located on stable slopes, out of intermittent or perennial drainages, in
order to minimize erosion and sedimentation. It does not ford any streams.
Overall length of the haul road is 760 feet and maximum width is 35 feet
at the entrance to the property. It was designed to handle a speed limit
of 20 m.p.h. Grades do not exceed 1v:lOh (10%}, and the horizontal align-
ment closely approximates the existing topography.
Topsoil from the designed roadway was removed and stockpiled prior to
construction, The roadbed was then compacted with a Caterpillar 815
Compactor and then graded. Fourteen inches of pit-run gravel was placed
on the road, followed by four inches of 3/4 inch gravel. No acid- or toxic-
forming material, coal or organic matter was used to build or surface the
haul road. The surfacing materials used to construct the road are sufficiently
durable to withstand the anticipated volume of traffic.
The haul road does not cross or block any drainages on the Bourg property
• and thus, does not contain any culverts or bridges. Runoff from the road
will flow into ditch C-1 and will be released into sediment pond C. This
system is adequate to safely pass peak runoff from a 10 year 24 hour
precipitation event. The surface of the road was constructed to prevent
ponding of water.
The haul road will be graded periodically to ensure that design
standards are met and to ensure safe and efficient utilization of the
~ road. Dust control will be accomplished by watering the-roads when necessary.
When the haul road is no longer required, it shall be closed to all
vehicular traffic. It will then be regraded to conform with the natural
surroundings and topsoiled and reseeded in the same manner as other
disturbed areas on the Bourg site.
Light-use Roads. Two types of light-use roads exist on the Bourg property , ,
~ (see Plate 23 for locations of all roads). The first type, a perimeter road ~~
was constructed at the request of the Bureau of Land Dlanagement to create a
buffer zone between the mining operations and surrounding BLM lands. This
. road is used occasionally for water monitoring and to check fences around
the perimeter of the property.
D-9(a)
- --- _ - -- ~-.~a -
~=
