Revised 12/21/82
EAST DUMP
Approximately 1.1 million cubic yards of overburden will be placed in a
permanent dump, 0 to 40 feet thick, between the pit and the eastern boundary
of the property, called the "East Duinp". Presently, this dump area is somewhat
gullied. To ensure stability, slopes on the completed dump will range from
horizontal to 5:1, averaging about 9:1 or 11 percent. The final surface will
grade gently into the surrounding terrain. No part of it will be built on an
old landslide.
During construction of the East Dump, vegetation will be progressively
removed. Using scrapers, topsoil will then be removed and stockpiled as
detailed in Plate 15. Overburden material will be brought from the pit by
scrapers and spread along the contour in 6 to 12 inch lifts. The approximate
original drainage will be restored. The final surface will be scarified and
topsoil will be brought from stockpiles and spread by scrapers along the
contour to a thickness of one foot. Reclamation will then proceed as detailed
in the reclamation plan. See Section F, pages 3-6 for further discussion of
the East Dump.
Stages 6 - 9. The mining face in the lower half of the V-shaped cut will
pivot clockwise and then proceed southeastward to allow extraction of the
remainder of the lower seam. Overburden will be used to progressively refill
I the pit, with the fill fallowing the mine face no closer than 100 feet.
Haul Roads. The haul road for the Bourg mine consists of approximately
4732 feet of existing ranch road, which has been upgraded, and 2768 feet of
new road to the mine site. Maximum gradient on the road does not exceed 6%.
The entire road crosses BLM property; BLM has primary control of it and
the MLRB has agreed that where regulations conflict, BLM requirements
will be fcllci:cd. Specifications for the rears ~;cre .ictcrminr•d by the BLM
(See Appendix F). These included: road width, 30 feet; surface, 4 inches
of compacted base; road cut slopes, maximum of 1.5(h):1(v); fill embankment
built in horizontal lifts of 18" or less.
~_.
D-6
i a
