h1ESH DEFORh1ATI0N <br />• The wire mesh shall have detormability suEticicnt t-o permit ~~ <br />minimum mesh elongation equivalent to 10~ of the unstretched <br />length of the mesh test section without reducing the gauge or <br />tensile strengCh of the individual wire strands to values .less <br />than those for similar wire, one gauge smaller in diameter. <br />Gabion Fill. The material used <br />hard stone with pieces ranging <br />in greatest dimension. <br />for gabion fill shall he clean, <br />from three (3) to eight (Q) inches <br />ASSEMBLING AND PLACING <br />a) Each gabion shall be assembled by tying all untied edges with <br />binding wire. The binding wire shall be tightly looped around <br />every other mesh opening along the seams in such a manner that <br />single and double loops are alternated. <br />b) A line of empty gabions shall be placed into position according <br />to the contract drawings and binding wire shall be used to securely <br />tie each unit to the adjoining one along the vertical reinforced <br />edges and the top selvedges. The base of the empty gabions placed <br />• on top of a filled line of gabions shall be tightly wired to the <br />latter at front and back. <br />c) To achieve better alignment and finish in retaini.nq :galls, gabion <br />stretching is recommended. <br />d) Conncctiny wires shall be inscrCCd during the fillinr! operuCion <br />in the following manner: <br />36" Gabions <br />I) Gabions shall be filled to a depth of twelve (12) inches. <br />II) One connecting wire in each direction shall be tiyhtlp rigid <br />to onoosite faces of each gabion cell at. a height of t•.:elve <br />(12) inches above the base. <br />III) Gabions shall be filled with a further depth oi'. t~.relve (12) <br />inches, and two connecting wires shall similarly be tiud at <br />this level. <br />IV) Gabions shall be filled to the top. <br />All connecting wires shall be looped around Caro mesh ouenings and <br />the ends of the wires shall be securely twisted to prevent their <br />loosening. <br />• <br />-6- <br />
