i • • III III III IIIIIII III
999
Sept . 18 , 1978
S E P 2 7 1978
Mined Land Reclamation Bureau : L" r I r ! ':CLt'.`.;.IiCiJ
1313 Sherman St . _•
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Sirs :
It has come to my attention that Bestway Paving Company has
applied for a mining permit through your Department . As a
resident very close to the proposed gravel pit ( less than
500 feet away) I object very strongly to issuance of that
permit .
The increased activity in the present mining operation this
summer has created noise levels which I am sure are in
violation of state standards . I see that their mining plan
does not even have any noise studies included. Is that not
a necessary item? The traffic on Fourth Street at times is
unbearable , to say nothing of the beep , beep , beep of the
scrapper at work.
We have noticed a drastic increase in the number of mosquitoes
this summer and are wondering if it is possibly related to
the water which presently stands in the pits across the street .
Is there anyway to get rid of that water?
I worry constantly about the children in the neighborhood and
the possibility of one of them falling into the present pits .
A child would certainly have no way of getting out of the
hole, and could possibly even end up in the water . Aren ' t
there regulations which could prevent that possibility? I see
none written into the plan other than a fence, which certainly
would not discourage a curious youngster .
Carl Hill stated in the Weld County meetings that he envisioned
a housing development , or possibly businesses as the final
reclamation goal . However , I now notice that the reclamation
plan calls for agricultural use . When did that change take
place, and what about the big display which he used at the
county meetings?
I will be anxious to know what happens regarding the applica-
tion in this matter, and I ask that it be denied for the safety ,
and welfare of nearby residents .
Very truly yours ,
/Doreen Ragan
405 35th Avenue Court
Greeley , CO 80631
