percent slopes) with a Deep Loem range site classification (Tab 9).

Topography within this habitat consists of gentle to moderately steep rolling hills with
planer to concave surfaces, and benches. Topography within the permit area has been
influenced by tut end fill activities associ ated with construction of the rail spur.
Aouatic Areas. Aquatic habitat is limited to the surface area of ponds end the Dry Creek
stream channel. Dry Creek is characterized as intermittent within the reach which bisects
the permit area. For mapping purposes, wet portions of Dry Creek ere included within the
saline/alkaline wet meadow map unit (Exhibit 11-1). The ponds contain water during some
portion of most years, as evidenced by [he presence of aquatic macrophytes and emergents
within end surrounding the ponds.
Xabitats of Adjacent Areas. The proposed permit area is bounded on the south by the Seneca
II-Y tie-across haulroad (refer to Exhibit 4-1). Agricultural areas exist south of the
haulroad. The permit area is bounded to the west by abandoned cropland that has been
reseeded with introduced cool season graminoids, small parcels of saline/alkaline
shrubland, and active dryland agricultural areas. Upland shrubland end a small parcel of
grassland border the permit area to the east between the rail spur and the Yampa Valley •
airport. Improved pasture borders the rail spur to the north.
Fish and Yildlife Resources
Mammals. Table 11-2 presents a list of mammalian species that could potentially occur
within or adjacent to the loadout permit area. the list was derived from the Colorado
Mammal Distribution Letilong Study (Bissell end Dillon, 1992), by cross-referencing the
habitat designations used in the study with those found in and surrounding the permit area.
The SaRb and OS habitat designations in Table 11-2 correspond to the saline/alkaline
shrublands habitat previously described. The MS habitat in Table 11-2 corresponds to the
saline/alkaline wet meadow type, end the Cr designation corresponds to disturbed lands end
agricultural areas.
In addition to the mammals listed in Table 11-2, pronghorn (An[ilocaora americans) could
potentially occur in the area. Two pronghorn were documented in the vicinity of the Seneca
II-Y permit area on February 17, 1982 within the SY'G, SY'4 of Section 3
TSN
R88Y (see
application package for Permit No. 82-057 at Volume ,
,
6, Tab 11, pg. 14). •
4
