,~
.,~~: .
Groundwater Monitoring
A temporary agreement was struck with Bud Rienau to monitor groundwater levels
in the G and J coal seams and in two alluvial wells in the vicinity of "First
East" mining under Curtis Creek. The data seems to indicate that the G seam
(HRG-1) near mining is being dewatered, as expected, and the effects have not
yet been transmitted further away (HRG-2), attesting to the low transmissivity
of this coal. No apparent hydrologic effects have occurred in the overlying
J seam (HRJ-1) to date..
The current data from the two alluvial wells HRA-1 and HRA-2 tend to indicate
that the fluctuation in the levels of alluvial groundwater is synchronized
with the normal seasonal fluctuations.in the quantity of surface water flow.
Such a situation would be expected under normal undisturbed conditions. The
data contained no indication that either surface or alluvial waters were
being discharged to underlying strata.
