-$-
..
_1

..
r
_'
L

•
L
t
_~

road be sloped to drain toward the "uphill" side. The configuration of
the drainage ditch, as we 11 as the locations and sizes of culverts
required should be sized by a hydrologist. Overall drainage should be
planned so that water is not allowed to pond on the haul road surface,
in drainage ditches, or adjacent to the haul road.
LIh1ITATI0N5
This report was prepared based upon observations and mapping of the
geology, strength parameters for fill presented by Chen and Associates,
and design plan and profile. Our fill slope stability analysis assumed
that the Mancos shale will be used as fill soils. If soils other than
the Mancos are used, the materials should be tested to verify the
strength assumptions used in our analyses. Designs were predicted upon
a life of 5 years. If the assumptions used in the analyses are
inconsistent or change as a result of mining, we should be consulted to
review the work. Construction should be observed and tested.
