for the Pinyon-Juniper range site which dominates the area.
• Also, n0 minimian or average production values sere given for
the sites. The detailed vegetation sampling to be uirlertaken
during the sLUaner of 1981 will provide production data for the
various sites.
The land uses within the permit area fall into two cat-
gories, highland agriculture, special use (mining). As noted above,
and as is evidenced on the land use (Map IV-1) mi.,inq yas oc~m~d
in Section 15 and 22 prior to submission of this application. The
land use, except for permitting the mining activity, has not been
changed within the past five years.
Prior to mining, which for the general area dates back
to the early 1900's, the land use has been highland agriculture.
Flocever, due to the extensive disturbance associated with the
• old mining activities the land was left in a condition that was
not conducive to grazing. The main limiting factor has been the
creation of the numerous dumps, which are located in the most fertile
part of the Canyon. This resulted in diminishing the number of acres
of land which could provide good forage for livestock.
The recroteness and ruggedness of the area is not conducive
to supporting a variety of land uses. The only possible uses
for the area would be as follows: rangeland, wildlife habitat,
limited forestry, recreation, developed water resources and mining,
At the present time, the area is used as rangeland, wildlife habitat
and for mining, The Other three uses have a very limited potential
for development due to the current land condition. Sdithin the permit
boundary there are not enough trees to support a lumber industry.
IV-3
