• Ground and standing liter was greater on spoil (10 percent) than on topsoil
(4 percent). The percentage of rock ground cover was greater on topsoil
(16 percent) than on spoil (9 percent).
Production was similar between spoil and topsoil plots. Production
of grasses was higher in topsoil plots with 16 species as opposed to that
in spoil plots where 11 species were observed.
The results of the study indicates some trends in the use of topsoil
and spoil as plant growth medium, however, these data only indicate
general trends and the study was not designed to be definitive. The lack
of abiotic, background and historical data about the reclamation study
areas seriously handicaps this study.
The only available revegetation information known about the
reclamation study areas is given in Table 4.4-F-2. The species percentage
for the seed mix planted on the spoil area is unknown.
•
u
Mid-term '94 4.4-D-6 September 15, 1994
