Sediment control facilities (sedimentation ponds) for
approved discharge sites OOSA, 006A, 007A, 008, 009, 009A utd 01 OA have been
constructed. No mine related disturbances have occurred in areas reporting to the outer
proposed dischazge points. The mine is currently idle, completing final reclamation
requirements.
Discharges occurred only through discharge point 009 during the third quarter. No
dischazges occurred at any of the other sites. Several afternoons of moderate
precipitation were followed by a more intense rain event the afternoon and evening of
September 2, 2003. The mine rain gauge, located at the crest of the drainage reporting to
Pond 9, collected 1.1 incites from this rain event (approximately 50% of the l0yr-24hr
rainfall event).
The Mine is requesting the application of Alteroate Limitations (for events less than or
equal to the 10 year, 24-hour precipitation event) for Total Iron and'fotal Suspended
Solids. The analysis for total iron was 3.09 mg/1 resulting in the excedence of the 30-day
average of 3.0 by 0.09 mg/I. The analysis for Total Suspended Solids was 36 mg/I
resulting in the excedence of the 30-day average requirement of 35 mg/1 by 1 mg/I.
(There was only one discharge during the month). The single event maximum was not
exceeded.
