UNITED STATES NATURAL RESOURCES 325 W. Rainbow
DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION Salida. Colorado
AGRICULTURE SERVICE (7191 539-7331
November 25, 1998
To: Joe Cogan
24899 US Hwy 285
Buena Vista, CO 81211
Joe,
Enclosed is the soil info you requested for the Arnold Gulch
pit site. This area has been included in the Chaffee-Lake
soil survey. Only one soil unit has been mapped at the
Arnold Gulch site, the Gravelly Alluvial Land (GV).
This soil is extremely variable in texture, being composed
mainly of stratified sands and gravels with some cobbles and
stones. There is little silt, clay or other organic fines
in this soil. The topsoil is very thin to nonexistent.
This soil does not support much vegetation. Due to the
droughtiness and low water holding capacity of the soil, a
dense vegetative cover cannot be supported.
The GV soil is not classified as highly erodible and it is
not a hydric soil.
Please see the enclosed soil map, soil description and soil
limitation sheets attached to this letter.
Please call our office at the above number if there are any
questions.
Sincerely,, ~~
John Nelson
Salida Field Office
