Page 2
skies partly cloudy, temperature about 65 F.
A light rain had fallen on the evening of
June 14th.
E. July 18, 1983: The annual embankment inspection
was conducted. Weather conditions were favorable,
skies partly cloudy, temperature about 85 F. The
mine area was dry and mine personnel reported that
no measurable precipitation had fallen in about
one week.
F. July 6 1984: The annual embankment inspection
was conducted. Weather conditions were favorable
with sunny skies and temperature of 80 F. The
mine area was dry and no measurable precipitation
had fallen within one week.
G. August 1, 1985: The annual embankment inspection
was conducted. Skies were sunny with a tempera-
ture of 75 F. The mine area was dry at the time
of inspection, although scattered showers have
occurred over the past week.
H. July 3, 1986: The annual embankment inspection
was conducted. Skies were partly cloudy with
temperature in the 70's F. The mine area was
dry at the time of inspection, although scattered
showers have occurred over the past week.
II. Inspection
A. Crest of embankment
The crest of the embankment is a 60-foot wide
roadway used for coal haulage. No signs of stress
(cracks) were noted upon inspection of the crest.
The roadway and side ditches are well maintained.
Safety berms are in place. The side ditches are
clean and traverse the entire length of the embank-
ment with no openings for discharge onto embankment
slopes. There was no flow in the side ditches on
the date of the inspection.
B. Upstream embankment slope
Although vegetation is sparse on the side slopes
due to the course and rocky material present in
the fill, erosion does not appear to be problem.
No cracking or bulging was noted on the slope.
Only minimal impounding had occurred over the past
year as evidenced by debris at the lower upslope
toe to the fill. The steel stake set to indicate
the 10-year, 24-hour storm water elevation is in
place and in good condition.
