Construction Report -West Taylor Pond
Construction Report
West Taylor Reservoir
As required by Rule 4.05.9 (14), the following report is provided to document
construction information upon completion of construction.
The impoundment was constructed by Anson Excavating during Juiy through October,
2007. Design information for the pond is presented in Volume 13, Exhibit 7, Item 20,
Part C of the Colowyo Mine permit.
A preconstruction meeting was held with Mike Anson, Dusty Wiseman, Juan Garcia,
Alan Jorgensen, Tay Tonozzi, and Tom Peterson on July 12, 2007. Following is the
proposed list of equipment to be used for construction:
• Cat 433 Sheepsfoot
• Cat 325 Backhoe
• Cat D7 Dozer
650 Water truck
• two 10 wheeler dump trucks, 6 wheel drive
Topsoil removal from the pond footprint was salvaged and stockpiled immediately
above the impoundment interior. The majority of topsoil was removed from the
impoundment interior as of July 12, 2007. An estimated 1,460 cubic yards were
stockpiled based on load count yards as of that date.
Survey control was provided by Jerry Magas of Colowyo Mine. The following control
points were established, and the contractor then used this information along with the
CAD file of the design and GPS survey equipment to provide their own survey
information during construction.
Name Northing Easting Elevation
TPP1 336183.30 1345465.55 7965. 71
BSP1 333218.83 1346522.83 8098. 91
BSP2 335752.21 1343972.24 7671. 17
TPP2 338011.49 1344392.15 7454. 75
TPP3 338016.70 1344437.56 7452. 04
Four separate borrow samples were obtained and sent to NWCC Laboratories for
testing. Atterberg Limits, Proctor tests, and gradational analyses were obtained for all
four samples. The samples were designated as samples P1 through P4. All of the
samples were obtained from the borrow site area rather from the impoundment interior,
although the material obtained from the impoundment interior were judged to be very
similar to the borrow sources. All four samples yielded a maximum density of between
105 and 110 pounds per cubic foot. Laboratory results for the four samples are
presented in Attachment 2.
Page 1
