Walther
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Dire~r~•
Request for Information~and Decision Date.
This Office has begun reviewing the reclamation cost estimate for the above referenced application.
As indicated in the Reclamation Plan, a key element in the reclamation effort is the backfilling and
compaction of the areas known as A,E and F. Elam specifies that the Federal Housing Administration's
publication, 79G will be utilized. In order to calculate the bond, this Office needs to know the particular
data and specifications of that document. The compaction of soils and sub-soils to meet housing
specifications is not within the Division's normal range of activities. Please supply either the pertinent
specifications for the number of lifts, compaction and other data used by Elam to calculate the cost for
this particulaz task or a copy of the publication with said specifications marked or identified.
The Public Comment period ended for this application on May 21St, 2002. The Decision Date stands as
June 24s', 2002. To date, this Office has not received a reply from Elam concerning the Preliminary
Adequacy Review sent on 4/08/02. This Office must receive Elam's response by June 14`s, 2002 to
insure adequate time for review and the estimating of a reclamation bond. Failure to supply the response
with adequate review time will result in denial of the permit unless an extension is granted.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970.241.1117.
Sincerely, ~ ~,,~
" ~Z~%~/ln ~y
G.
