The passive treatment pond, which has an automatic dewatering device, had routine daily
snowmelt runoff and inflow due to seasonally "warm" sunny afternoons on a south facing mine facilities azea. Itt
accordance with the October 24, 2004 Permit Amendment No. 1, Permit Part I(b) Alternate Limitations we are
requesting relief of primary total suspended solids (TSS) limitations for an event less than or equal to the ]0-year, 24
hour precipitation event or snowmelt equivalent.
The data indicates a TSS of 47 mg/l which would exceed the primary 35 mg/130-day average requirement but well
below the daily maximum requvement of 70 mg/1. However, since the discharge is a result of snowmelt inflow it is
appropriate to claim the alternate effluent limit for SS. The analytical results for SS indicated <0.1 mVUhr which is
well below the 0.5 mVUhr requirement. Overall, the pond is functioning well and according to the design.
Incidently, a CDRMS inspection occurred on 2/1$/2007. The Inspector (Mr. Jim Stark) would be able to confirm the
daily snowmelt conditions occurring in this south facing, mine facilities azea.
No other issues were encountered during February, 2007.
