CO 80346-1530
RE: Submittal of Additional Information for Fourth Quarter 2000 Report
Dear Ms. Lenkey:
RECEIVED
MAR 0 3 2001
Division of Minerals 8 Geolon~~
As per our telephone conversation, Picketwire Processing would like to submit the following
information that you requested to supplement data submitted on the Discharge Monitoring Report
for point 007A at the New Elk Mine (Permit 000000906) for the fourth quarter of 2000.
A revised Discharge Monitoring Report for point 007A is attached which includes results from
sampling of iron and total suspended solids, revised tlow calculation, and revised sampling
frequency. Since the discharge was a result of a storm of less than a 10-year, 24-hour event, a waver
of the iron and total suspended solids limitation is requested. A precipitation event of I.1 inches
on October 16 was recorded at the New Elk Mine rain gauge which caused the discharge. Prior to
this event, the pond water level was well below the discharge point. Discharge occurred over a three
to four day period while the pond dewatered to a point below the weep holes.
Should you have questions or need additional information concerning this situation, please do not
hesitate to let me know by calling 303-850-0930.
Sincerely,
~~
Jerry H.
