Coal Canyon Scour Protection and Transition Zone
Engineer's Certification
The hydrologic balance of the segment of Coal Canyon, below the two 81" by 59"
culverts was affected after the dip section located about 800-feet downstream of the
two culverts was removed. Erosion of the channel started to progress upstream from
where the dip section was removed. Additionally, erosion of the channel was noted at
the outlet ends of the two culverts.
To remedy this problem scour protection was placed at the outlet of the culverts.
Approximately 700-feet downstream of the double culverts, a transition zone was
installed to control the channel erosion noted above. This work was performed during
August 2003. See Exhibit 8B and Appendix 13-2, pages Misc-20 through Misc-22 for
details of the scour protection and transition zone.
I, James E. Stover, inspected the scour protection and transition zone on August 18,
2003. To the best of my knowledge and belief, the scour protection and transition zone
meets all applic mance standards and design criteria presented in Snowcap
Coal Compa •~,~clamation Permit, C-81-041.
~~,~~,~ _" F, ~ ms's
E.
