Exhibit K -Climate <br />• Page 2 <br />This translates into a 5096 probability that the growing season will be 136 days long. <br />4.0 PRECIPITATION DATA <br />Monthly average total precipitation and monthly average snowfall aze presented in Table 3. It can be <br />seen that the precipitation cycle is unimodal and that the maximum occurs in May and the minimum <br />occurs in January. However, relatively high precipitation values are present through the summer and into <br />September. This is mainly a result of thunderstorm rain showers which develop over the mountains and <br />travel eastwazd during the late afternoons. Maximum snowfall occurs in March. This is the time of the <br />yeaz that synoptic scale storms most often follow a storm track across southern Colorado. The <br />combination of the storm track, time of year and location of the Rocky Mountains often produce heavy <br />wet snowfalls. Annual average total precipitation is 15.48" while annual average snowfall is 49.3". <br />5.0 WIND DATA <br />A climatological record of wind speed and direction is not available for either Dowe Flats or Waterdale. <br />The only data available for the region has been collected during the last three calendar quarters of 1990 <br />• by McVehil-Monnett Associates at the Dowe Flats aerometric monitoring station. Since wind direction <br />is highly influenced by local topography, the use of this short-term data set may be more appropriate than <br />using data of a longer period of record from a distant station although it is recognized that the data here <br />are not climatologically significant. <br />The windrose (Figure 1) and Table 4 represent the available wind data. It can be seen that the winds <br />blow from either the northwest or southeast the majority of the time. Winds from the west tend to be <br />the strongest, averaging 12.5 mph. The overall hourly average wind speed is 7.2 mph. The strongest <br />hourly average wind speed on record is 45 mph. <br />L J <br />
