Needle-and-thread and blue grams
were the dominant grass and plant species in both the main and
reference areas. Five species of perennial forbs were present in
both areas, contributing 5.8 $ and 4.0 $ relative cover
respectively. Annual plants contributed less than 10 ~ of the
total vegetative cover in both areas, while shrub species composed
less than 2 ~ relative cover. Both areas contained the highest
amount of litter of all the major communities and reference areas.
Herbaceous production was highest in this community type and
its reference area. 95.5 and 96.1 $ of the total production in the
main and reference areas respectively was contributed by perennial
grasses.
