Mr. Allen Sorenson
October 30, 2002
Page 3
ENV 124.02
The barium concentration at Well 19-2 remains intermittently above the early warning
indicator value. As data for this well is evaluated, it may be important to consider that
during the core drilling of this well the drilling rig burned as a result of natural gas. Various
materials were used during the emergency situation to help stem the flow of gas fueling the
fire. It is likely that elevated barium in this well is resultant from possible residual barium
containing materials used down hole to curtail the escaping gas.
American Soda is required to sample well field injection and production streams for water
quality chemical constituents. These samples were collected during the quarter and this
data is provided to you in tables as a separate attachment. The injection and production
stream data is clearly marked as Confidential Business Information.
Should you have any questions or comments regarding this information, please contact me
at (970) 285-0407 or Celina Akin at (970) 2B5-0406.
Sincerely,
~~~ ,
Ed Cooley ~'
Health, Environr/nent, and Safety Manager
EC/CMA
Enclosures 1.
