CERTIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTION
WASH PLANT PONDS
These two ponds, upper and lower settling ponds, were in-
stalled around 1960 to 1961. No design information was available
at the mine site at the time of inspection for certification on
February 2, 1984. The location of these ponds is shown on map
D-9-8 in the Snowmass Coal Company Permit No. C-025-81. These
ponds are designed to settle fines from the wash plant water
circuits. These ponds are used regularly when in operation and
usually require dredging annually.
The installation of these ponds was primarily done by ex-
cavation below ground level. A heavily used road separates
these two ponds. No problems have been noted on this road or
the ponds in general. The slopes to these ponds is approximately
lh:ly and the depth is approximately 10'. Vegetation has been
re-established around these ponds.
Information considered in the certification of these ponds
is history and personal observations February 2, 1984. To the
best of my knowledge and understanding, these ponds have been
installed according to sound engineering design and they meet
the requirements of the Regulations of Colorado Mined Land Rec-
lamation Board for Coal Mining, 1980.
;, ~
J 7_ . `~
Larry M.
