Site Description (cont'dl Exhibit B <br />NRCS Soils Information <br />Douglas-Plateau Area, Colorado 57 <br />moderatdy deep. Also included are small areas of <br />Debeque very channery loam. <br />The Hepple soil is tleep and well drained. It formed <br />in colluvium dedved dominantly from the Green River <br />shale fomratfon. TypicaNy, the sadace layer is tght <br />gray very channery sandy loam about 7 inches thick. <br />The upper part of the substratum is very pale brown <br />very channery sandy loam about 7lnches thick. The <br />next pazt Is light gray very channery sandy Clay loam <br />about 18 inches thick. The lower part of the <br />substratum to a depth of 601nches or more is light <br />gray extremely channery coarse sandy loam. <br />Pormeabillty is moderato in the Hepple soil. The <br />available water capedty is bw. Tha attec5ve rooting <br />depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is rapid, and the <br />hazard of water erosion is severe. <br />Rock outcrop occurs as horizontal bands 20 tv 80 <br />Isar high abng canyon rims and as buttresses <br />extendng iNO areas of the Hepple soil. The Dutirossos <br />make up abom 10 percent of the Rock oulerop. <br />This unit Is used for Ilvasmck grazing or as wildlife <br />habitat. <br />The potential plant community on the Hepple soil <br />is mainly Intlian rwograss, weslem wheatgrass, <br />bottlebrush squi:reltail, shadscals saltbush, and <br />Wyoming big sageMush. II range condition declines <br />as s result o1 overgrazing, Ne pmpodfon of <br />palatable grasses decreases and Wyoming big <br />sageDRlsh and torbs increase. The average annual <br />production of air-dry vegeLntion is about 850 pounds <br />parsers. <br />Seeding is not practical In areas of tAls unit <br />because of tho stonirsss and the slope. The use of <br />mechahical equipment For brash control is not <br />practical because of Lhe slope antl Ne stones on the <br />sudarq. <br />The Hepple soil is a poor source of reconstruction <br />material for drastically tlistuNed areas because of the <br />restricted availatle water capacity. <br />The cepabili(ycfassRicatron of the Hepple soil rs 7e, <br />nonirrtgated.
