Drilling to a TD of 1502 was completed by July 14, 1999. • Well 21-4 was drilled from surface to 40 ft with a 19-inch-diameter tri-cone rock bit. A 14-inch-outside diameter (OD) surface conductor casing was run to 40 ft and cemented in place. The top of the casing was set at ground surface. • After the conductor casing cement hardened, a typical 12.25-inch- diameter tri-cone long tooth button bit was used to advance the well to a TD of 1502 ft. Rock chip samples were separated from drilling fluids in a cyclone separator and passed over a Shaker table for recovery at 5-ft intervals. Drilling fluid consisted of clear water, with a light bentonite and polymer mud additive. Dissolution Surface • To prepare the bore hole for the first and deepest monitor well installation, the hole was cemented from 1502 ft (TD) up to 1477 ft with 24 sacks of Class A Type II cement with -1% calcium chloride. The cement was placed in a series of vertical lifts via a string of 2.75-inch-OD tremie line composed of nominal 20-ft pipe joints. The Dissolution Zone well (21-4D) was installed after the cement set, and completed with a 10-ft fiberglass, #20 slot screen at 1432 to 1442 ft near the Dissolution Surface (1452 ft).
