~ ~
COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT
Water Quality Control Division
Permits and Enforcement Section
MEMORANDUM
To: Jim Stevens
Senior Environmental Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
From: Sarah Johnson ~ ~,~ ~~,~ay~
Stotmwater Unit Leader ~/.f/~
Date: June 20, 1995
Subject: Mines that have claimed "no stormwater discharge"
~-83-13~
III IIIIIIIIII'lllll
sss
Here is a crude list of mines that have contacted us and have claimed that stormwater doesn't leave their sites.
It was compiled from vazious lists (Periodically, we send out letters when we collect a stack of DMG inspection
reports. We keep lists of the addressees, and make notes on the lists when the people call or write in.)
This list isn't necessarily complete. We may have talked to some people, and have no rewrd of it. But this
is a good shot at the majority.
We tape their word for it, if they claim they have no discharge. However, we try to explain that if later
someone else visits the site and makes a different determination, they may need to get a permit. We also don't
require written notification of No Dischazge. If they want written confirmation, however, then they have to
make a written request. We will do a better job of making sure you get copies of any of these letters that we
send out.
We aze about to send out another batch of letters. As soon as we do, I'll send you a master copy of the letter,
and a copy of the list of addressees.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with. My direct phone number is 692-3609.
Attachment
xc: Dan Beley
Kathy Dolan
